Rolfing™, Structural Integration
Rolfing™, also known as Structural Integration, is a deep myofascial manipulation technique that utilizes pressure, movement and body awareness to improve posture and tissue balance. The focus of this type of work is to determine how and why your body has drifted out of balance. Adaptions for injuries, overuse, or a sedentary lifestyle can create problems in movement and posture.
A typical session may begin with a postural evaluation, and the client may be asked to stand, sit, and walk so the therapist can better understand how the client is moving. The Rolf therapist will then use hands, knuckles, and forearms to manipulate the fascia under the skin and around structures like joints, muscles, and tendons to improve function, balance, and support in gravity. The client may experience soreness or mild discomfort during and/or after a session, but it is always within the tolerance level of the client. The client usually feels lighter with improved movement afterward, and sessions can be spaced from 1-3 weeks between appointments.
We offer all three styles of Structural Integration: Traditional Hard style (deeper with more pressure), Moderate, and Light style (lighter, much less pressure). Whether you are in chronic pain or just want to improve your posture and move better, Structural Integration may be right for you.
Massage
Massage can help increase circulation to tired and sore muscles, enhance flexibility, and release some of those ‘feel good’ endorphins. It can provide great relief from the stress and tension of everyday living. Swedish massage is a relaxing experience while a vigorous sports/deep tissue massage can help relieve sore muscles post-workout.
